THE PHENOMENON OF SPIRITUAL BLINDNESS AND DEAFNESS AMONG MUSLIMS IN THE END TIMES

“Awake, yet still trapped.”

Today, humanity lives in a world full of light but walks in darkness. Every day their eyes open to the visible spectrum of light, yet in truth they no longer see. Their ears catch sounds and recitations of Qur’anic advice, yet the meaning of divine revelation no longer penetrates their hearts. They know the name of Allah, they speak of Him, they talk about religion, but the system of dhikr that was meant to connect sight, hearing, and the heart to the Creator has long been severed. This is the very disease Allah describes in Surah al-Kahf verse 101—a disease unseen in the body but spreading through the soul.

Many Muslims today have already “woken up.” Awareness exists. They know about the signs of the End Times, they know who the Dajjal is, they know about the global system, riba, the media, and the many mechanisms of worldly power. Yet that awareness has not freed them. They have “woken up” but still live under the same system, trust the same sources, and judge the world in the same way.

That is what Allah recorded in Surah al-Kahf verse 101. This verse does not describe disbelievers outside Islam but Muslims who possess the revelation of the Qur’an yet no longer measure their lives by it. They believe in the verses of the Qur’an but reject their meaning.

ٱلَّذِينَ كَانَتۡ أَعۡيُنُهُمۡ فِي غِطَآءٍ عَن ذِكۡرِي وَكَانُوا۟ لَا يَسۡتَطِيعُونَ سَمۡعًا

Those whose eyes were veiled from My remembrance and who could not hear the truth.

(Surah al-Kahf, 18:101)

This verse comes after a sequence of monumental events in Surah al-Kahf. It begins with the collapse of Dhul-Qarnayn’s wall (18:98), the emergence of Gog and Magog (18:99), and the unveiling of Jahannam (18:100). Finally, Allah describes a generation that sees yet does not understand and hears yet does not perceive.

That phenomenon is happening now. We live in the same age described by this verse. The world has become a field of mixed truths and falsehoods, a flood of information without boundaries. The Muslim ummah is now living in an exposed era—knowledge is abundant, but understanding is scarce. They measure truth by algorithms rather than divine revelation. They seek God through theories but not through bowing and prostration. They recite dhikr with their lips but not with their hearts.

Their eyes still function, but their vision has lost meaning. Their ears still hear, but their inner frequency no longer aligns with truth. Their hearts have become hollow. Light reaches the retina but not the qalb. The sound of revelation reaches the ear but produces no vibration of taqwa. They live in an unseen veil that separates them from dhikrī—the remembrance and consciousness of Allah. They are unaware that this is the sign of inner blindness, the final stage before spiritual collapse.

The problem is not a noisy world, but hearts that can no longer receive the resonance of truth. The system of fī ghiṭāʾin ʿan dhikrī has become a global condition. Knowledge, entertainment, and politics have all merged to form a veil that blocks humanity from hearing the voice of reality. So when Allah’s revelation is recited to them, it sounds like a distant and foreign voice. Recitation becomes only recitation.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) provided the means of protection 1400 years ago—Surah al-Kahf. He did not command the weekly recitation of any other chapter, only this one, because it is the manual for survival in the End Times.

“Whoever recites the first ten verses of Surah al-Kahf will be protected from the trials of the Dajjal.”

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith 809a)

This hadith is not merely a call to recite, but a divine protocol for protection. The Dajjal deceives humanity through perception—turning information into deception and deception into truth. Surah al-Kahf teaches mankind how the Qur’an filters vision and hearing so that they are not fooled by the system of the world.

But reciting without understanding offers no protection. Memorizing without contemplation makes one aware of the words but blind to their meaning. Allah did not close their eyes and ears without cause—they closed them themselves when they abandoned the Qur’an as dhikrī, the true reminder.

This is the reality of being “awake yet still trapped.” Their awareness is not based on Allah’s remembrance but on the algorithms of information. They oppose the Dajjal but unknowingly rebuild his system in new forms.

This series is written to explain how this phenomenon began, how it operates, and how it can be restored, based on the structure of Surah al-Kahf verses 98 to 101. It is not a series of awareness, but a series of analysis rooted in Qur’anic revelation, authentic hadith, and rational reflection, so that we may both think and remember.

If you wish to understand why Muslims today can see the truth yet still stray from it, and why Surah al-Kahf is the only survival manual the Prophet (peace be upon him) commanded us to read every week, then you must read this series to the end through the link below.

The Phrase Fī Ghiṭāʾin ʿAn Dhikrī (فِي غِطَاءٍ عَن ذِكْرِي) in Surah al-Kahf 18:101

The phrase fī ghiṭāʾin ʿan dhikrī in Surah al-Kahf 18:101 portrays humanity trapped within a hidden veil that separates consciousness from Allah. Their eyes still see and their ears still hear, yet the meaning of revelation no longer reaches the heart. Light and sound reach the senses but are no longer translated into remembrance. This article explains how that closure did not occur suddenly, but resulted from continuous rejection of Allah’s reminders until the entire human awareness system became sealed from divine truth.

The Phrase Wa kānū lā yastathīʿūna samʿan (وَكَانُوا لَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ سَمْعًا) in Surah al-Kahf 18:101

The phrase Wa kānū lā yastathīʿūna samʿan in Surah al-Kahf 18:101 portrays a humanity that has lost the ability to hear truth even though their ears still function. The sound of revelation reaches them, but it no longer penetrates the heart. The vibration of meaning no longer resonates within because the frequency of truth has been repeatedly rejected. This article explores how people can live while hearing but not understanding, speaking about faith yet disconnected from divine remembrance, until they become detached from the inner system of awareness that distinguishes light from darkness.
