Melaka Is the Promised Land

Part 1 : The Corruption of the Jewish and Christian Religions During the Period of Interrupted Prophethood

After Prophet Isa was raised, there was no Rasul who brought a new Shariah for a long period of time. This is the fatrah. Fatrah means a long period in which no new Rasul was sent to renew the Shariah, causing revelation to still exist but the understanding of mankind towards it to become weak and unclear.

Corruption of the Jewish Religion During the Fatrah

During this period the Jews still possessed the Torah, but it was read in the form of scholarly tradition, not in the form of hidayah that clarifies reality.

Interpretation of religion was of course controlled by the rabbis. Thus, religious law changed into social regulations and complex fiqh commentary.

Matters of aqidah began to mix with ritual elements after the exile to Babylon. They saw themselves as a chosen people, not merely as servants of Allah.

Although the Torah still retained its foundation, the function of Al Kitab as hidayah weakened, because distancing themselves from the revelation caused people to be covered by blindness to zikr and deafness to the revelation of Allah.

Corruption of the Christian Religion During the Fatrah

The Christians still remembered the teachings of Isa, but the form of the teachings changed through church consensus. Several new concepts were introduced, including making Isa the “son of God”, the doctrine of the trinity, and the cleansing of original sin.

The Gospel that circulated was the narrative of the life of Prophet Isa, not a complete Shariah scripture like the Torah.

Therefore, even though the teachings of Isa were still mentioned, the original teaching did not remain in the form of the true religion.

Two Sources of Religious Corruption

The corruption of religion during this period partly resulted from the evil and greed of human beings. Those who possessed religious knowledge began to use their position as a tool of domination, gaining influence, controlling the economy and ruling politics. They maintained their position by altering the interpretation of the revelation of Allah to ensure that power remained in their hands. Thus religion deviated from the purpose of servitude to Allah and turned into a structure of group interest.

Religious corruption also occurred due to the great fitnah of Dajjal, who has influenced religious history from the beginning. Dajjal works by inserting doubt, creating teachings that resemble the revelation of Allah, and planting false beliefs into human belief systems. This occurs by the permission of Allah as a test to distinguish those who sincerely seek truth from those who simply follow society and desires without tabayyun.

Similarities in the Corruption of Jews and Christians

Let us observe the similarities that occurred to the Jews and Christians during the fatrah.

The Jews possessed a scripture called the Torah while the Christians possessed a scripture called the Gospel. During the fatrah, Jewish teachings changed into the teachings of the rabbis, while Christian teachings changed into church doctrine. Both involved the control of religious authorities.

What the Jews lost was understanding of revelation even though revelation was with them. The Christians began losing their tauhid and shifted from believing in Allah the One to a different form of divinity. Both became such because they were covered by blindness and deafness within themselves due to rejecting the verses of Allah. Refer to QS Al Kahfi 18:101.

If we notice, the Jewish religion has strong religious texts, while the Christian religion has preserved historical narratives. However, what was disturbed was that the Jews lost guidance, while the Christians lost direction in worship. Both still exist as religions, but not in the form of revelation that is clear and concrete.

Allah’s Call Through QS Al Maidah 5:19

At the time when the Jewish and Christian religions were in a state of confusion, Allah clarified the coming of Prophet Muhammad SAW:

O People of the Book, there has certainly come to you Our Messenger to make clear to you during a gap after the [coming of] messengers, so that you do not say, “There came to us no bringer of good tidings and no warner.” But there has come to you a bringer of good tidings and a warner. And Allah is over all things competent.

Al Maidah 5:19

This is where Prophet Muhammad SAW is sent as mentioned in QS Al Maidah 5:19. Ayat 5:19 explains that Allah sent Prophet Muhammad to restore the understanding of revelation to the Jews and Christians.

Prophet Muhammad SAW also came to clarify the matters that they differed in. Prophet Muhammad was also sent to close the excuse that there was no messenger after Prophet Isa a.s.

This is the meaning of the end of ayat 5:19, where after this ayat was revealed, both groups can no longer say that they did not receive glad tidings or warnings. This is both glad tidings and a warning to the Jews and Christians, because the Torah was originally true, and the Gospel was originally true. But their understanding became blurred. Therefore Allah sent the final Messenger to correct the guidance through the Qur’an.

Thus I write this to clarify that the promise of Allah to the People of the Book is true, and I intend to clarify these promises to them, including that Melaka and the entire Nusantara is the land that was promised to them, and that the Jews and Christians who return to revelation are obliged to defend Melaka and all its cities under its sovereignty through Islam, because Islam has come to the Jews and Christians after the interruption of prophethood.
