The Religion of Assumptions: A Revelation of Surah Al-Kahf 18:102 Concerning the People of the End Times
Bahagian 1 - Alif (أ) dan Fa (ف)
This verse begins with the letter "أَ", which is a form of questioning that both negates and reprimands. Allah is All-Knowing. Allah does not ask us questions in order to know our state. Rather, Allah asks at the beginning of Surah Al-Kahf 18:102 to expose the mistake that has occurred among all of us. In this verse, Allah is directly correcting us.
Within the context of the End Times, when the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ instructed us to recite Surah Al-Kahf, we repeatedly encounter this divine question. Through this repetition, we are given the potential to uncover and understand our own errors—particularly as the community of the End Times—when we reflect deeply and become those who possess true understanding (Ulul Albab).
This question is then followed by the letter "فَ", which functions as a causal connector to the previous verse, 18:101, which we have already discussed.
By reading it together with verse 18:101, we can understand the full structure of "أفحسب" in the phrase “أفحسب الذين كفروا” to mean:
“So after they became blind to the remembrance and deaf to the revelation, do they then assume…?”
Thus, this phrase does not stand alone, and verse 18:102 must be read together with verse 18:101. Continuous acts of disbelief performed by Muslims cause them to become spiritually blind and deaf. This blindness and deafness lead them to assume, rather than perceive accurately. Those who are cut off from revelation and deprived of divine guidance replace truth with assumption within themselves—including assuming that they are Muslim, when in reality they are in a state of disbelief.
